Our history

Autobus Galland was founded by Paul Galland in Ste-Scholastique in 1941. At the time, the company was named “Paul Galland”. His eldest son, Real, helped him run the family business.

In 1949, the company expanded and Jean-Charles joined the family business. The ambitious and creative young man brought new life to the company

The company acquired a permit from Laval Transport in 1957.   To fulfill it’s new obligations, the company began the construction of a building in Laval located at 3874 chemin du Souvenir, where our Head Office is currently located.  Paul Galland then retired and left the family business to his sons.  With the ever growing population, the company began carrying students of the Montreal Catholic School Commission.

In 1960, with the arrival of another member of the family, Joseph Albert, the company continued to flourish. Galland et Frères was born.  This company is still operating today.

With the creation of local School commissions in Laval, the company expanded it’s operations with the purchase of neighboring lands.  By 1967, the company had already doubled in size.

In 1974, Joseph Albert left the company to establish his own transport company in the St-Hyacinthe region.  The City of Laval began to offer free transportation by school bus to Sporting clubs as well as Golden Age clubs.  Autobus Galland’s eagerness to serve this new clientele soon translated in the establishement of a charter division.

In 1978, Michel Galland, son of Jean-Charles, joined the company.  This dynamic and audacious young man brought about a new outlook to the company. With his modern vision, he ensured that the company was up to date with the latest technology and equipment.  In 1980, Real decided to retire from the family business leaving Jean-Charles and Michel in charge.

Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, the company continued to grow.  It expanded the charter division with the addition of several permits including those servicing the airports of Montreal, Quebec, Ottawa and Toronto.

With the tourism industry on the rise, the company invested 3 million dollars in order to accommodate it’s ever growing demand.  In 1997, a vast building of 16,000 square feet was built on the same land that the company had occupied for the last 40 years.

In January of 1999, the company bought Autobus Duplessis Inc., another transport company operating chartered as well as school buses.

Already ensuring the maintenance of all its vehicles, Groupe Galland intends to invest more efforts on promoting its mechanical services to other transport companies. Moreover, since November 1999, the company improved its group by openning the Centre du Camion Galland.

The year 2004 brought Autobus Galland to obtain its certification with respect to the bus transport service standard from the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ), thus, making it one of only two certified bus transport companies in Quebec.

Within the framework of its strategic plan Groupe Galland aims to diversify its transportation offers amongst its current customers and also aims to develop new branches of the industry. Thus, in August 2005, Groupe Galland acquired the urban, intercity and chartered services of the Laurentian region. The acquisition of these services, recently held by the Limocar company, has made it possible for Groupe Galland to continue its growth. This represents the transport of 125,000 passengers and 24,000 parcels annually.

Clearly, Groupe Galland provides services that go beyond its original vocation of chartered and school bus transportation.
